Downtown Norfolk Construction Planning Overview At our 2008 November DNC Member Briefing, the City’s Director of Development, Rod Woolard gave an information-packed power point presentation. This presentation provides an excellent overview of the work to be accomplished in downtown over the next couple of years. From Light Rail to utility work, there is a lot on the drawing board!

We invite you to view this presentation and we encourage you to share this information with others. (Please be aware that this is a very large presentation that may take as long as 15 minutes to download. When you click on the link, a dialog box will open. Save to your Desktop or other folder. When it’s finished another dialog box should open telling you that it is completed. Click open if it doesn’t start by itself.)

We also invite you to watch for Street Smart Traffic Alerts when they are sent and take advantage of our Interactive Map which provides you with the most up-to-date information on street, sidewalk and lane closures associated with construction. All of these tools are designed to make getting around downtown easier.

The City of Norfolk has adopted a Major Urban Construction Business Assistance Program. Details on the Program, including forms of assistance and the process for applying can be found here. The application itself can be downloaded and once completed mailed to:

Department of Development
500 East Main Street, Suite 1500
Norfolk, VA 23510

Should you have questions, please call 757-664-4338 and you will be routed to the appropriate person. Or, you can email development@norfolk.gov.

Our goal is to communicate accurate information often and responsibly. Downtown will not be without its challenges over the next couple of years but we need to remind ourselves that there truly is a great upside to what is happening downtown.
