Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is the region’s public transportation provider. HRT bus services connect the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton and Newport News.  Daily light rail service extends from the Eastern Virginia Medical School through Downtown and east to Newtown Road at the Virginia Beach border. Many local bus routes connect at the Downtown Norfolk Transit Center at 434 St. Pauls Blvd. This center serves 14 routes and has amenities to include a customer service counter, public restrooms, bike racks and ticket sales. It is within walking distance of the Monticello and Civic Plaza light rail stations. The city also has daily ferry service across the Elizabeth River connecting Olde Towne in Portsmouth and Waterside.  The MAX, or Metro Area Express, a regional express service connecting all of Hampton Roads also serves Downtown with connections to the Oceanfront and the Peninsula.  For route schedules and general information about all transit services, call 757-222-6100 or visit gohrt.com.  Dial 711 for TTY.
