A Letter from the Chair
Dear DT100,
I am so excited for the upcoming year. Last year was a great success for all of the committees and I know you will continue to raise the bar this year.
The Chairs and committees are already hard at work planning the upcoming year and I encourage you to get involved and make a difference. The Downtown 100 presents leadership, volunteer, civic, and social networking opportunities that are fantastic. I truly believe these events can help you grow as a person, a citizen, and a leader.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and I am looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Help us Launch the Tide

On August 19th, at long last, The Tide will welcome passengers – for Free!
Downtown 100 Members are invited to help Downtown Norfolk Council members and staff by serving as hosts and hostesses when we welcome several Virginia Beach business people who are strong supporters of extending The Tide. Needless to say, extending the Tide needs to be one of our most important objectives as we all strive to make The Tide successful.
Members of Virginia Beach Visions, Light Rail Now, Central Business District Association and members of CBDX, a young professionals group supporting the Central Business District of Virginia Beach have been invited to "Ride the Tide" from Newtown Road to MacArthur Square.
We will meet the train and then escort our Virginia Beach neighbors to Town Bank Fountain Park for an evening of fun, fellowship, entertainment, food and drink.
We would very much like for many of our Downtown 100 members to help us with this event. It will be fun and a great way to celebrate this momentous day.
Please RSVP to DT100@DowntownNorfolk.org. Thank you for helping us.

The Tide’s Coming In!
With hustle and bustle of the light rail opening on the 19th (free rides for everyone all weekend!), remember to check out the artwork displayed at each of the stations. From kaleidoscopes and baseball bats to bright flowers and neighborhood images, riders will get to examine the efforts of local artists and their interpretation of each station’s surroundings.

Hip Huggin Tip
Do Revolving Doors Save Energy?
They sure do! On your next trip to City Hall or one of downtown Norfolk’s other buildings, choose revolving over swinging doors, if available, and save some energy. How does that work? Revolving doors allows less air-conditioned air to escape. According to a recent MIT study, approximately 8x as much air is exchanged between a building’s interior and exterior when using swinging doors. This means that 8x as much new air will need to be cooled (or heated), using more energy and costing more money. So just with the choice of a door, you can help conserve energy use. And who doesn’t find the revolving door more fun, anyway?
