Main Street - Brick Crosswalk Removal and Resurfacing

Beginning January 9, Main Street from Boush Street to Saint Paul's Boulevard will be under Norfolk Police control during daytime hours, while crosswalks are removed. In support of this work, parking will be periodically removed as intersections along Main Street will be closed one block at a time (heading west to east) and motorists will be detoured to adjacent streets. The road will be milled and paved immediately following crosswalk removal.

Main Street will be re-opened for evening rush hour traffic. To minimize inconveniences, some night time work may occur after evening traffic.

Main Street is expected to be paved and reopened by the week of January 16. However, weather will play an important factor in this work. When the temperature dips below 40 degrees, permanent asphalt should not be installed or failure will occur. Permanent decorative crosswalks will be installed in the spring when temperatures are consistently above 60 degrees.

While work is underway, if you arrive at a closed section of the street and need access to that block, please inform the officer of your destination and you will be directed in to the closed block.

For construction related concerns, the City of Norfolk has implemented a 24/hour hotline.
