NEW TOLL RATES ANNOUNCED FOR THE ELIZABETH RIVER TUNNELS PROJECT
Five Free Trips” E-ZPass Incentive Extended To January 31

PORTSMOUTH -- Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) is pleased to be able to accommodate the toll rate change proposed by Governor McAuliffe and Secretary Layne for the Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project. With tolling beginning Saturday, Feb. 1 at both the Downtown and Midtown tunnels, ERC has worked closely with its partners at VDOT and with the new administration to amend the base toll amounts to $0.75 during off peak and $1.00 during peak periods for passenger vehicles through 2014. Tolling is one of several funding mechanisms for delivery of the ERT Project. Details about the new toll rates for passenger vehicles and heavy vehicles are available on the Project website, DriveERT.com.

Consistent with the Governor’s efforts to ensure motorists pay the lowest possible toll, ERC will continue the “Five Free Trips” offer at the Elizabeth River Tunnels through January 31, 2014. Motorists will pay the lowest toll with E-ZPass. Hampton Roads residents who acquire a new Virginia E-ZPass transponder (on a new or pre-existing E-ZPass account) by Jan. 31, 2014 will receive 5 free trips for use at the Downtown or Midtown tunnels by June 30, 2014.

For purposes of this offer, Hampton Roads is defined as the Norfolk/Portsmouth/Newport News Designated Market Area (DMA): Chesapeake, Hampton, Gloucester County, Isle of Wight County, James City County, Mathews County, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Surry County, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, York County, Eastern Shore and the Outer Banks.
