Nexus Direct Grilled Cheese Cook-off Winning Sandwich Featured at Grilled Cheese Bistro

Nexus Direct, an international full-service direct marketing agency that recently moved its headquarters to Downtown, included some exciting new additions to their 4th Annual Grilled Cheese cook-off in honor of their new home at 101 West Main Street.

Nexus Direct partnered with Dina Taylor, Co-Owner of The Grilled Cheese Bistro, to have the winning sandwich featured at the popular restaurant from August 31st to September 6th. Nexus Direct also invited some of their new Downtown neighbors to judge the cook-off.

Judges Dina Taylor, Co-Owner of The Grilled Cheese Bistro, Deborah Stearns, Sr. Vice President at Jones Lang LaSalle and Mary Miller, President and CEO of DNC voted for “chef” Jeannie Escobar as the 2015 grand prize winner with her recipe for The Cheesy Guido. Jeannie is a second time winner and also walked away with a cheese crown, an American Express gift card and most importantly the chance to have her recipe featured at The Grilled Cheese Bistro. Be sure to stop by the restaurant and check out The Cheesy Guido

Granby Street Welcomes A Third Parklet

We’ve seen many uses of our Downtown parklets; impromptu meet-ups, brown bag lunches al fresco, meetings in the fresh air to spark creativity and book breaks. People love these uniquely urban spots and we are excited to have added a third parklet at 416 Granby Street. Be sure to get out and enjoy the parklets while the weather is nice.
Parklet locations:

  • 207 Granby Street. Designed and built by Jackie Tugman and Carl Romulus.
  • 250 Granby Street. Designed by Work Program Architects. Sponsored by Work Program Architects, Blueridge General, Inc. and 3Way Café.
  • 416 Granby Street. Designed and built by Jackie Tugman. Sponsored by Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company.

The NEONing of the Arts District

The NEONing, a neighborhood unification project in Norfolk’s Arts District led by artist Joan Biddle, has officially begun with community volunteers painting triangles from a palette of bright neon colors on the sidewalk on Granby Street in the Arts District. The NEONing will continue until the NEON Festival on October 15 with geometric patterns on sidewalks, painted light posts and other neon elements incorporated throughout the Arts District in the coming weeks.
