Be on the lookout for the sign to go up and stay tuned for updates on the official opening date.

Bean There Coffeehouse Updates

You may have noticed some changes happening recently at Bean There Coffeehouse. The popular coffee spot on E. City Hall Avenue has changed ownership to Dwayne Appleton, who also owns Java Surf Café and Espresso Bar in Virginia Beach.

Bean There has a new full menu for breakfast and lunch and offerings include sandwiches, salads and plenty of sweet treats. An update to the décor is in process and the new bright blue walls are already uplifting spirits when you walk in the door, even before you get that caffeine fix. They are also hosting open mic nights on the first and third Thursdays of the month.

St. Paul’s Downtown Farm Market Re-cap

In its second year, the St. Paul’s Farm Market has fast become an important part of the Downtown community for the fresh fare it brings each Saturday from the beginning of May through Labor Day, but even more importantly for the fresh food vouchers distributed to the residents of Tidewater Gardens.

This season the market distributed $8,075 in fresh food vouchers, with approximately $2,005 in fresh food provided to the elderly and household residents of Tidewater Gardens and to St. Mary’s for use in their four weekly soup kitchens. Because of St. Paul’s Farm Market, St. Mary’s was able to have fresh food to use at the soup kitchen for the first time.

With the tireless Diane Rafferty at the helm, it is estimated that an excess of 1,400 volunteer hours go into running the market throughout the season. Downtown 100 was excited to take on the Market as their signature service project. They helped by providing their services and volunteer support.

The St. Paul’s Downtown Farm Market and the Five Points Mobile Market at Tidewater Gardens have created an exceptional sense of community on both sides of St. Paul’s Boulevard.
