February Member Briefing

Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) is on a mission to ensure that all students maximize their academic potential, develop skills for lifelong learning and become successful contributors to a global society. The cornerstone of a proudly diverse community  with highly qualified teachers and staff, Norfolk Public Schools is dedicated to building a community of inclusiveness by providing diverse teaching and learning opportunities for students, staff and supporters.

Our February Member Briefing speaker, Superintendent Dr. Melinda J. Boone, is leading the district in an effort to get back to basics and focus on the core competencies of literacy, leadership and rigor. These primary areas of focus are components of the initiative being coined, NPS Redesign. The redesign process will allow for more intentional development and execution of improvement strategies. Moreover, the result will be districtwide stabilization and results.

In addition to explaining the impact that the NPS Redesign will have on the community, Dr. Boone will highlight some of the major accomplishments of the district that have taken place since she's been at the helm, such as 51% of schools reaching full accreditation, a number of recent DoD/DoDEA funding opportunities and  continued partnerships with the City.
