Downtown Norfolk's Museums & Galleries

Downtown Norfolk is home to several world-class museums pretty much all within walking distance of each other. You can really make a day of museum hopping!

Chrysler Museum of Art

The Chrysler Museum of Art is one of America’s most distinguished mid-sized art museums, with a nationally recognized collection of more than 30,000 objects, including one of the great glass collections in America. The Museum has growing collections in many areas and mounts an ambitious schedule of visiting exhibitions and educational programs each season. Check out the current and upcoming schedules here. Chrysler Museum Perry Glass Studio

The Chrysler Museum Perry Glass Studio is a state-of-art facility and the only one of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Studio brings the Museum’s internationally-acclaimed glass collection to life by showing how these masterworks were created. They have a robust schedule of classes and programming in a variety of processes including glassblowing, fusing, flameworking, coldworking and neon. Visitors can also enjoy free noon demonstrations, cutting-edge performance evenings and appearances by world-acclaimed artists. Check out their current class and workshop schedule here.

d'Art Center

 

 

d'Art Center is a unique visual arts facility that hosts working art studios creating, displaying and selling original fine art and provides the public with the opportunity to meet their artists and see how art is made. They also offer adult and children's art classes, workshops and summer art camps. See their current event and exhibition schedule here. Admission is free.

Nauticus & Battleship Wisconsin

Nauticus is Norfolk's maritime-themed science & technology center, and it inspires and educates visitors about the naval, economic, and nautical power of the sea. While you are at Nauticus, you can also check out the Battleship Wisconsin and explore one of the largest and latest battleships built by the U.S. Navy. Check out current programs and events here. MacArthur Memorial

The MacArthur Memorial is a museum & research center dedicated to preserving and presenting the story of the life of Douglas MacArthur. Admission is free.

Hunter House Victorian Museum

History comes alive at the Hunter House Victorian Museum, a rich example of Victorian decorative arts and architecture. Guests are surrounded by the opulence of the Victorian Era as they meet the Hunters on a tour of the home, which features the Hunter family's collection of furniture, books, decorative objects, and more. The Offsite Gallery

Norfolk Arts manages their Offsite Gallery inside MacArthur Center and rotates exhibits every 6 to 8 weeks. Check out their current events and exhibitions here.

Pure Lagos Art Gallery

Pure Lagos Art Gallery in MacArthur Center is a global-local, natural, organic, holistic health boutique and African art gallery. Healing consultations, skin care, and fair-trade afropolitan goods are all on sale.

Norfolk Police & Fire Rescue Museum

The Norfolk Police Department, established in 1797, is one of the oldest in the United States. The Norfolk Police Museum, established in 1919, is the oldest museum in Norfolk, and it serves to document and preserve the history of NPD and those who have served the department. Please call 757-441-1526 after 10am to see if the facility is open. Donations are appreciated.

Moses Myers House

The Moses Myers House features a collection that presents an exceptionally accurate picture of the late Federal period and the life of this prosperous Jewish family. Moses Myers, an early American entrepreneur, and leading citizen, built the house to accommodate his growing family and social prominence. Today, the house serves as a museum telling the story of the Myers family. Admission is free.
