Author Dr. Mark Van Ells presents on his latest book, Red Arrow across the Pacific: The Thirty-Second Infantry Division during World War II (2024). Dr. Ells will discuss the service of the 32nd "Red Arrow" Infantry Division, which became one of the most combat-tested Army divisions in the Pacific and saw more combat hours than any other. Dr. Ells shares the personal stories of the soldiers who saw combat across New Guinea and the Philippines with the 32nd, drawing from personal correspondence, memoirs, and interviews. This virtual event will be streamed live and the presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Mark D. Van Ells is a professor of history at Queensborough Community College of the City University of New York and the author of the previous books To Hear Only Thunder Again: America’s World War II Veterans Come Home and America and World War I: A Traveler’s Guide. His travel articles on historic sites have appeared in numerous periodicals, among them America in WWII, Military History, Naval History, Stars & Stripes, and World War II.
