Col. Cornelia Weiss (USAF, Ret.) will highlight Japan’s trailblazing 1947 equal pay law by sharing her current archival findings about the Allied military governments in the lands of the other two former major Axis powers, Italy and Germany. In contrast to Japan, they imposed unequal pay for equal work. This event will be livestreamed and the presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Cornelia Weiss is a former US military colonel. Awards received during her military service include Colombia’s Medalla al Mérito Militar en Derecho Humanos y Derecho Internacional Humanitario and the US Air Force Keenan Award for making the most notable contribution to the development of international law. Her scholarship highlights General MacArthur’s first demand for reform to the government of Japan for post-WWII Occupied Japan: the “emancipation of women.” A graduate of the Inter-American Defense College, she holds a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of Utah, an MA from Chile’s national academy of strategy and policy studies (ANEPE), and a JD from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
