Chris Smither is a national treasure, a unique artist whose blend of blues and folk is timeless. This will be his fifth appearance as part of the North Shore Point concert series, the most of any performer over 21 years. During a career that spans five decades, he has created an enduring catalog of classics. Just check his double album, "Link of Chain," featuring newly recorded versions of his songs with friends including Allen Toussaint, Loudon Wainright III, and Kris Delmhorst. He wrote "Love You Like a Man," which Bonnie Raiitt turned into a hit, among many other classics. He's so respected by his peers that Josh Ritter, Bonnie Raitt, Loudon Wainwright III, Dave Alvin, Peter Case, Tim O’Brien, and Patty Larkin, among others, contributed to a tribute album. What has evolved from his early days in New Orleans and Cambridge, Massachusetts, is his enduring, singular guitar sound – a beat-driven finger-picking, influenced by Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’ Hopkins, layered over the backbeat of his rhythmic, tapping feet (always mic’d live). There's no performing songwriter like him.
