When and where is the parade?
Saturday, November 22 at 7pm in Downtown Norfolk
What time does the parade start?
The synchronized countdown, grand illumination of the skyline, and the parade begin at 7pm.
How long is the parade?
About an hour from the time the first unit reaches your location along the parade route
Is the parade free?
The parade is free and open to the public.
Are street seats available for purchase?
There will not be street seats available for this year’s event.
Can we bring chairs?
Yes, but please stay with your chairs. Unattended items are not allowed along the parade route and will be removed.
Is there food for sale?
Yes, there are a variety of vendors along the parade route. Downtown’s many restaurants offer great options for before and after the parade.
Are you still accepting applications to participate in the parade?
Applications are now closed for the 2025 event. Check back in the spring for information on applying for the 2026 parade.
What is the parade route?
The 2-mile parade route begins at the corner of St. Paul’s Blvd and Main Street. It travels along Main Street to Granby Street, heading north. It then turns onto Freemason Street going west, turns onto Boush Street heading south, and finishes on Waterside Drive near Water Street.
What time should I arrive Downtown?
We recommend you arrive as early as possible; heavy congestion starts around 5pm. Early bird parking rates will be in effect in most garages. Consider visiting a Downtown restaurant or getting a jump on your holiday shopping when you arrive early.
Will there be restrooms along the parade route?
Portable restrooms will be available along the parade route. Check with one of our volunteers in yellow vests to find the closest option.
How can I see the parade if I do not attend in person?
The Grand Illumination Parade will be broadcast on Facebook Live @DowntownNorfolk. The broadcast will remain available after the event on Facebook and YouTube.
Is the route handicap friendly?
All of the viewing areas along the parade route are ADA accessible. If you have concerns along the route, please see one of our volunteers in yellow vests.
