Be there when Virginia Arts Festival partners with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in two fascinating projects that showcase momentous music rooted in Hampton Roads history.
“Finding Peace at Potsdam” blends storytelling and powerful performances to create a absorbing musical experience that illuminates the role music played in one of the most tumultuous times in the history of the world. At the 1945 Potsdam, the fate of post-World War II Europe would be decided, in an Allied summit that included President Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. At that momentous meeting, music was performed and became a uniting factor in the tense negotiations.
In this new production, you’ll hear fascinating insights into that history—including the pivotal role that Hampton Roads played—alongside performances of great classics by Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Kreisler and more, plus works that evoke the era of the conference. History leaps to life in these extraordinary concerts!
These performances are made possible through a generous gift from the Susan Goode Performance Fund.
