Details

Join Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander, author of Waterways to Freedom, on historic June 19th for a walking tour of Underground Railroad sites in Downtown Norfolk. Hundreds, if not thousands, of African-Americans made daring escapes to the north via ships visiting Norfolk's waterways. Learn more about Norfolk's heritage and implications for the present.

The tour begins at Fountain Park next to the BB&T building at 500 E. Main Street. The Department of Neighborhood Development can validate parking for the Fountain Park Garage adjacent to Fountain Park. The address for the garage is 130 Bank St, but it can be entered around the corner on Plume St. Although breaks will be provided, please wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and you may want to bring a water-bottle. REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 25.
