Accomplished glass artist Martie Negri is best known for exquisite works executed in the 5th-century Italian glass technique known as millefiori, or a thousand flowers. 'Organica,' will pair examples of her early vessel forms with a new body of work exploring dynamic compositions inspired by nature. According to Negri, “It's my objective within my practice to attempt to breathe new life into an ancient glass technique.”
To get a behind the scenes look at her process, Martie Negri will be at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio for a free glassmaking demo at Noon on Saturday, March 11th!
'The Layered Up Invitational Exhibition' will highlight ten national and international contemporary artists who take traditional glass processes such as cane, murrine, reticello, and reverse glass painting, to unique and visually stunning levels. Their works peel back the layers of glass history to reveal fresh and stimulating perspectives.
Artists featured include: Jason Christian (Seattle), Dan Friday (Seattle), Nick Leonoff (New York), Krista Israel (Netherlands), Chuck Lopez (Seattle), David Patchen (San Francisco), Wesley Neal Rasko (Czech Republic), Ross Richmond (Seattle), Static (London) and Zoe Woods (Australia).
