Are you aware of the new changes coming soon regarding overtime compensation? We had several discussions with our Downtown businesses and find that most do not realize that the Department of Labor is increasing the salary threshold for exemptions from overtime pay from a weekly pay of $455 ($23,660/year) to approximately $970 ($50,4440/year). This has a huge impact on our local hospitality, non-profit, and corporate sectors. Realizing the information and planning gap, Downtown Norfolk Council has partnered with Anne Bibeau from Vandeventer Black LLP to provide our downtown businesses with the ins and outs of preparing for and ensuring compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act when the anticipated changes take effect.
